Making Referrals to Dr. John Swaine & Associates
How to Make a Referral
Referrals can be made by phone, fax, letter or
online. Clients may refer themselves.
- Phone 469-0048 and briefly discuss your request, and/or:
- Fax a letter or referral form (available upon request) to 469-3001, then:
- Mail, courier or fax any supportive documentation or reports.
We Will
- We will make an initial appointment for your client.
- Afterwards, we will contact or write to you promptly to provide you with assessment information and recommendations.
- Prepare a more detailed report, upon request.
- Keep in touch with you and the client, as needed.
About Us
Dr. John Swaine & Associates is an experienced clinical practice that provides a wide range of helping services to the public, community professionals, service agencies, and to their clients. We are specialists in dealing with the difficulties of young people, adults and their families.
Dr. John Swaine directs the service. He is a clinical psychologist registered with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology and the Canadian Register of Health Services Providers in Psychology. He is also a part-time Assistant Professor in the Dalhousie University doctoral psychology program.
Dr. Swaine has more than thirty years of experience working with children, teens, young adults and families as a clinician, lecturer, supervisor and consultant.
Our staff are experienced, registered professionals from various mental health disciplines, on contract with Dr. John Swaine & Associates. They have also been screened by the police and child abuse registry for criminal or abusive backgrounds.

As a collaborative partner with the public system, we work with public agencies, physicians, social workers, probation officers, educators, and other health professionals. We also provide services through some EAP and private insurance plans.

MSI does not cover the professional services of Dr. John Swaine & Associates and payment will be expected for each service.
The rate for individual sessions will vary, depending on the service requested.
Monthly billing and contracts for services can be arranged under some circumstances.
Many Employee Assistance Plans and private health insurance plans cover parts of our professional fees.
